What you need to know.
The governing entities have worked quickly to set policies that protect and help you as a health insurance policy holder. Here is a simplified breakdown of information you may want to be aware of and understand.
- The current COVID-19 circumstances led Louisiana governor to declare a State of Public Health Emergency.
- Under this declaration, new “Emergency Rules” have taken effect in Louisiana.
- This likely impacts your health insurance policy in a variety of ways that will be helpful to you in the coming months.
EMERGENCY RULE 36: Health insurers must provide coverage for policy holders to be tested for COVID-19 without any out-of-pocket expense.
EMERGENCY RULE 37: Insurance companies have now expanded their coverage of telemedicine services so that policyholders can continue to receive services without risking further exposure through an in-office visit. This includes necessary medical care as well as mental health services.
EMERGENCY RULE 41: To accommodate the high volume of hospitalization, patients requiring continued treatment in a stepdown facility will pay the same cost that they would have had they remained in acute care. No additional transfer costs will be incurred. This will allow for continued care for patients and increased bed availability at hospitals.
